"Deeds not Words"

Nau mai haere mai ki te kura o te Kaihau a Kupe

He Mihi Maioha | Principal’s Welcome

Ngā mihi mahana ki a koutou katoa – a warm welcome to you all.

It is my privilege to extend a heartfelt welcome to everyone visiting our newly refreshed online kōrero for Castlecliff School in Whanganui.  Nestled near the beautiful Whanganui coast at 25 Polson Street, our school has for generations been a special learning place where whānau, culture, and community thrive.

Our Story and Community
I have been honoured to serve the Castlecliff community in various roles over the past two decades - from classroom teacher to Assistant Principal, Deputy Principal, and now as Principal - guided by the legacy and support of past leaders, staff, whānau, and Board members. It fills me with pride to witness multiple generations of families now here, sharing the same dreams, learning, and aspirations through their children’s education.

Our Philosophy
At Castlecliff School, we celebrate diversity, cultural heritage, and academic growth for ākonga from Year 1 to Year 6. Our whānau classroom approach encourages tuakana–teina relationships, where older learners support younger ones, strengthening both academic and social development. From the first moments at school, our tamariki are welcomed into a nurturing learning space grounded in belonging and respect.

Embracing Te Ao Māori
We recognise the invaluable gift of te reo Māori and local tikanga. Guided by the voices of our whānau, our tamariki are embraced in learning that best supports their progress in both English and Māori. Our goal is to build capable learners who walk confidently in both worlds.

A Culture of Care and Opportunity
Our committed kaiako and kaiāwhina bring diverse strengths and passions to our kura, ensuring every akonga is known, supported, and encouraged.  From daily fitness and creative play to structured literacy and inquiry-based projects, our programme promotes holistic growth.

Our Aspirations
We believe each child has their own unique pathway. Whether through literacy, maths, arts, sport, tikanga-based learning, or leadership opportunities—we aspire to help our learners thrive in life, not just school. We regularly share narrative reports, hold parent–teacher conferences, and welcome whānau involvement in guiding our direction and programmes.

Join Us
Whether you are returning or new to Castlecliff, we invite you to explore our site, reach out to our office (06 344 4537 or office@castlecliff.school.nz), and connect with our vibrant kura whānau.

Thank you for entrusting us with your tamariki. Together, we build a place where learning, belonging, and possibility flourish.
